He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert Tholen and Bertha Tholen (Goodman); and his siblings, Andrew, Regina, Mary and Adeline.
He is survived by: his wife Adeline VanLerberghe; and his children, Steven (Deborah), Randy (Elaine), Mary Howe (Chuck), Kevin (Maureen) and JoAnn (Steve Barstad). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
