He was predeceased by: his parents, Helen and Conrad; and his brothers, Richard and James. He is survived by: his wife Evelyn; his children, Deborah Hutterer (Alan Field), Steven Spiess (Diane), Jerry Spiess (Jackie) and Scott Spiess (Jess Schug); and his siblings, Judie Coulter (Ken), Anita Harrington, Michael Spiess (Ginny) and Lelia Skarboe (Brian). He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren; and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to GA Youth Camping Scholarship Fund or Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Sun City West, AZ.
