He was predeceased by: his parents, Friedrich Groth and Jennie Groth (Russell); his in-laws, Marvin and Esther Palmquist; his siblings, David Groth (Joanne) and Judith Young; his niece Julie Peters; and his brother-in-law Daniel Brunette.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Ann Palmquist of Maple Lake; his children, Derek Groth (Barbara) of Annandale, Natalie Weigel (Brian) of Eagan, Peter Groth (Bette) of Elk River and Matthew Groth (Alicia) of Montrose; his grandchildren, Hannah Lundquist (Brent), Christopher Groth (Rachel), Jennah Groth, Dylan Weigel (Hannah), Dalton Weigel (Sophia Castle), Xavier Groth, Gabriel Groth, Emma Groth and Franklin Groth; and his great grandchild Lucille Jo Groth. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins.

Visitation was held on Saturday, March 8th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church (5460 63rd St NW, Maple Lake, MN 55358). A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 8th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
