He was predeceased by: his father Elias Garza Alvarado, Sr.; and his grandparents, Olivia Lozano, Ignacio and Natalia Rodriguez. He is survived by: his mother Estela Rodriguez; his wife Mary Dietz; his children, Elias Jr. III, Lupe, Sergio, Esperanza, Monique, John, Ismael, Esmeralda, Brian and Nathaniel; his stepchildren, Jeremiah and Jasmine; his siblings, Guadalupe, Inez, Esteban, Marco and Monica; and his grandfather Guadalupe Alvarado. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
