He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hammerschmidt and Emelia Hammerschmidt (Sturm); and his granddaughter Vanessa. He is survived by: his wife Irene Hammerschmidt; his children, Kevin Hammerschmidt (Sharon) of Mankato, Karen Meyer (Daniel) of Gibbon, Karla Ewert (Daniel) of Mankato, Keith Hammerschmidt (Jill) of Zumbrota and Kenny Hammerschmidt (Angela Duryee) of Mankato; his grandchildren, Rex, Sharry, Robby, Dustin, Felicia, Luke, Kirsten, Katie, Victoria, Isaiah, Tyler and Hannah; and his sister Theresa Kolp of Redwood Falls. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
