He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter John and Agnes Therese Michels (Hogan); his brother Ronald; his parents-in-law, Sylvester Schmit and Marie Nelson; and his brother-in-law James Jagerson.
He is survived by: his wife Rita R. Schmit; his children, Todd Michels of Chanhassen, Lauren, Ava and Troy Michels (Mary) of Eagle Lake; his grandchildren, Breck, Nolan, Avery and Sedona; his child Tania Kocmick (Larry) of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Carson, Rowan, Milan, Verity and Handler; his daughter Tricia Miller (Rhett) of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Finley, Monroe and Greeley; his sisters, Myrna Yenter of North Mankato and Lois Jagerson of Madelia; and his siblings-in-law, Shirley Michels of North Mankato, Richard Schmit (Joann) of Shakopee and Robert Schmit (Genny) of Hutchinson. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
