He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Alfred Boerner and Marion Boerner (Willis); his wife Arlawayne Engel; his children, Annette Schultz (Tim), Russell Boerner (Naomi) and Wayne Boerner (Rachel); his grandchildren, Faith, Bethany, Isaiah, Madison, William, Matthew, Anthony and Sophia; and his brother Keith Boerner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School.
