He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert and Evelyn; his siblings, Christie Olson (Tom), Ron Smith, Greg Smith and Steve Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Rudy Torres, Dave Carlson and Maureen Carlson.
He is survived by: his significant other Joan Marie Smith; his sister Sue Pihl (Thomas); his siblings-in-law, Judy Toft (Rod), Mona Smith and Don Carlson; his children, Scott Smith (Michelle), Heidi Ferris (Kjell) and Todd Smith (Katy Prenevost); and his grandchildren, Madeline, Tyler, Gabrielle, Eleanor, Iris, Owen and Avery. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and countless lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred The Nature Conservancy for his love of nature and Memorial Blood Center for giving Royal for countless transfusions over the last year.
