He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Nelson and Inge "Karine" Nelson (Aaberg); his wives, Shirley and Helen; and his son LeRoy Nelson.
He is survived by: his children, Arlene Miller (Gary) of Dawson, Dale Nelson (Lynne) of Sioux Falls, SD and Nancy Mead (Bruce) of Canby; his daughter-in-law Janet Nelson of Madison; his grandchildren, Derrick Nelson (Jessica), Adam Nelson, Alicia Engstrom (Tad), Casey Nelson (Laura), Tony Mead (Julie), Steve Mead (Amber), Jack, Ada, Isaak, Merrick, Blake, Alexa, Tenley, Blayre and Abigail; and his sister Elna Diment of Minnetonka, MN. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
