Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Deane Melvin Antoine (Madelia, Minnesota), born in Mitchell, South Dakota, who passed away at the age of 86, on June 4, 2021. He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Antoine and Hazel Antoine; his son-in-law Tracy Baack; his brother Bertie; and his great grandchild Rylan Miller.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn; and his children, Greg (Barb) of Luverne, MN, Jody Cunningham (George) of Madelia, MN, Pam Baack (Tracy) of Mesa, AZ and Doug (Nancy) of Northfield, MN. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

Memorials will be directed to the Methodist Church, Madelia Hospital Foundation, and Dollars for Scholars.

“Thinking of you all in this time of loss. I will forever appreciate Deane as we both came to Madelia in 1974, and we worked together so very well together in our years there. He was also a great teammate on our most enjoyable softball team, and recalling those days always brings a smile to my face. Deane was a great school leader and I applaud his life lived so well. Dean was my high school science teacher in Rutland ,SD, from 1960-63 and later in life a superintendent colleague when I was In Edina. He was the best teacher I ever had with high expectations and wonderful energy and compassion. I even got to know a little about his SDSU athletic experiences and he was a great coach competitor. I followed his long career and met him a few times. I treasure my memories of him.”
