He was predeceased by: his parents, Lars Haakenson and Anna Haakenson (Freim); his wife Joan Serie; and his sisters, Ethel Carlson and Helen Probst.
He is survived by: his brother-in-law Jack Carlson; his children, Mike (Pam Haakenson), Cheryl (Bob Dodge), Marsha (Gary Gabrielson), Sandy (Dave Parpart) and Mary (Mark Aukes); his grandchildren, Troy, Tami Burnett, Chad Gabrielson (Lisa), Mandy (Terry Hendrix), Eric Parpart, Andy Haakenson (Meghan), Lindsay Kashdan (Tyler), Jake Aukes (Christina) and Mariah VanOrman (Sam); his great grandchildren, Spencer Burnett, Aubrey Burnett, Alyssa Gabrielson, Talia Gabrielson, Brielle Haakenson and Baby Haakenson; and his sister Lorraine Eggimann of Santa Maria, CA..
In lieu of flowers, memorials are prefered to the Minnesota Veterans Home, in Luverne, or St. Catherine Catholic Church.
