He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Holst and Leona Holst (Goehle). He is survived by: his wife Karen Holst (Schiro); his sister Vivian Holst of Luverne; his niece Jana (Schiro) Schafer (Teal); his nephew Justin Schiro (Stephannie); his brother-in-law Jerry Schiro (Sue); and his cousin Goehle. He is also survived by his extended family and friends.
