He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Mitchell and Margaret Mitchell (Miller); his sister Patricia Latten; and his nephew Richard. He is survived by: his wife Marvis Hamann; his son Jon Mitchell of Luverne; his brother Curt Mitchell; and his brother-in-law Lowell Hamann (Paula). He is also survived by one nephew; and many nieces.
In 2013, he retired from full-time work, but remained a custodian in a part-time capacity until spring 2020, when he retired completely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
