He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Smidstra and Reika Smidstra (Kracht); his wife Lylas Smidstra; his son Joel Smidstra; his parents-in-law, Everett and Juel Jurrens; his siblings, Albert Smidstra (Harriet), Bert Smidstra (Albertha), Jennie Vande Weerd (Jack), Suzie Kelderman (Hank), Jessie Wiersma (Harvey) and Wilma Jean Jeffer; and his brother-in-law Donald Jurrens.
He is survived by: his son Charles Smidstra of Luverne, MN; his grandchildren, Ben Smidstra of Luverne, MN, Christina Grijalva (Jose) of Luverne, MN, Bethany Smidstra (Brandon Englert), Melissa Smidstra (Fady) of Michigan and Erin Jerke (Jordan) of Harrisburg, SD; his great grandchildren, Gavin, Adriana, Gabriella Grijalva, Trenton, Lucas, Garrett, Lilliana, Amara, Scarlett Englert, Claire Eaton, Yunis, Eesah, Musa, Bilal Al-Aqidi and Everleigh Jerke; and his siblings-in-law, Joe Jeffer of Luverne, MN and Delores Jurrens of Ellsworth, MN. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
