He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Matthiesen and Meta Matthiesen (Bendt). He is survived by: his sisters, Connie Frahm of Magnolia and Ellann Petersen of Yankton; and his nieces and nephews, Lynn De Berg (Marlan) of Luverne, James Frahm (Rae) of Ellsworth, JoAnn Gumto (Jim) of Jackson, Carey Petersen (Linda) of Omaha and Matt Petersen (Kim) of Burke. He is also survived by other relatives and numerous friends.
As noted in remarks left on Sonny's memorial tribute, he was a simple and sincere man.
