He was predeceased by : his son Brian Carlson; and his parents, Lyle and Mary. He is survived by : his wife Rose Carlson of Lowry; his children, Thomas Athey (Lisa) of Milbank, SD, Patrick Athey, Barbara VanHout (David) of Milbank, SD, Kurt Athey (Tammy) of Brookings, SD and Lori Goergen (Mike) of Plymouth; and his sisters, Dorothy Dotts of Gulf Port, MS, Evie Beyer (Earl) of Starbuck and Ginny Stattelman (Rich) of Clinton. He is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
