He was predeceased by: his parents, James Leonard "Len" and Mary "Babe" McCarney (Hollihan); his wife Margaret Jost; his son Kevan; his brother Robert; his sister-in-law Roselyn; and his son-in-law Tim Derksen.

He is survived by: his brother-in-law Paul; his children, Mary Jo Conzemius (Pete) of Minnetonka, MN, Jeanne Rooney-Graves (Bruce), Cathy Derksen and Michael McCarney (Diana) of Litchfield, MN.; his daughter-in-law Marcia McCarney; his sister Geraldine Lounsbury; and his grandchildren, Jim, Jeff, Eric, Brian, Andy Conzemius, Sean, Ryan, Kyle Rooney, Patrick, Michael, Bridget, Brenna Derksen, Anne McCarney, Katie Campbell (McCarney), Mary Beth Plucinski (McCarney), Joe McCarney and Elizabeth McCarney. He is also survived by 29 great-grandchildren.
