He was predeceased by: his parents, William Nygaard and Dagmar Nygaard (Hansen); his wife Irma Maher; his son Jim Nygaard; his siblings, Helen Maher, Lois White, Donald, Robert and Roy; his grandchildren, Mike Garding, Scott Garding and Theresa Dressel; and his sons-in-law, Les Nothnagel, Allen Garding and Dave Rittgers.
He is survived by: his children, Janice Angier (Cordell) of Sun City, AZ, Barb Werner (Bob) of Litchfield, Beverly Farley (Dan) of Channahon, IL, Judy Rittgers of Broken Arrow, OK, Mary Mack (Ron) of Litchfield, Sue Nystrom (Byron) of Long Prairie, JoAnn Olson (Glen Heggem) of Willmar and Bill Nygaard (Sandy) of Litchfield. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
