He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Mickelson and Norma Mickelson; and his brother-in-law John Duncan. He is survived by: his children, Mike Mickelson (Tina), Brian Mickelson (Jodi), Amanda Mickelson (Fred Haines) and Tim Mickelson (Britany); and his siblings, Joyce Duncan and David Mickelson (Ruth). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

“I was saddened to learn of Gerald's death (but grateful to others from the old neighborhood who let me know) and want to send my sympathy to Joyce and David as well as the rest of Gerald's family. I know Gerald had a long time when he would have wanted to feel better and be able to do things like he used to do, so hopefully he is now at peace.
