He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Cordes and Alvina Cordes (Michaelson); his wife Leona Karstens; his brothers, Orlin, Walter and Franklin Cordes; his daughter Gloria Fitschen; and his grandson Brian Fitschen.

He is survived by: his siblings, Vernice Cordes (Fran) of Red Wing, Verna Koenig of Lake City and Vera Carlson of Red Wing; his daughter Judy Dworak of Andover, MN; his granddaughter Barbie Otto (Wayne) of Red Wing; and his son-in-law Fred Fitschen of Red Wing. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
