He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Schmidt and Marcella Schmidt (Loechler); his brother Jerry; his nieces, Sheila Sobiech (Schmidt) and Tina Schmidt; and his great grandchild Cullen Hinck.
He is survived by: his wife Barb; his children, Dean (Veena Nayer) of Lake City, Mike (Theresa) of Lake City and Jennefer Baer (Richard) of Lake City; his grandchildren, Nate, Nora Baer, Kaitlin Schmidt, Sami Hinck (John), Megan Bartlett, Kim Baer (Ryan Westphal) and Megan Nayer; his great grandchildren, Calie Dohrn, Brayden, Brittyn Hinck and Cooper Westphahl; and his siblings, Dennis Schmidt (Mary) of Hastings, Minn, Bob (Michelle Fore) of Shakopee, Allyn Schmidt of Palm Desert, Cal, Ed (Shelley) of Rochester, John Schmidt of Lake City, Carol Holmgren (Lowell) of Lake City and Connie Kubista (Mike) of Lake City. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 13th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, February 14th 2025 at 10:00 AM. A Mass was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church (419 W Lyon Ave, Lake City, MN 55041).
