He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Arends and Anna Arends (Klinghagen); his siblings, Roger Arends and Betty Tjaden; his granddaughter Krista Arends; and his great grandchildren, Eli James and Gabriel Joseph.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Johnson; his children, Bonnie Wentzel (Craig) of DeGraff, Jeff Arends of Pennock and Scott Arends (Christy) of Harvey, ND; and his siblings, Ruthann Butler (Gerry) of New London, Gretchen Carlson (Jerome) of Kerkhoven, David Arends (Ruth) of Sedan and Arnie Arends (Pam) of New London. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He always was willing to help others and donated the majority of his garden's produce to the Willmar Area Food Shelf and Hope for Our City.
