He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schommer and Elizabeth Schommer (Barten); his wife June Schmidt; his grandson John Beckel; and his sisters, Genevieve Schommer, Mildred Schommer, Adeline Oelfke and Marie Mader.
He is survived by: his children, Carolyn Beckel (Ron) of Apple River, IL, Ruth Pedersen (Gary) of Edina, Roger Schommer (Brenda) of New Prague and Mary Effertz (Bob) of Belle Plaine; his grandchildren, Heather Connolly (Mike), Matthew Beckel (Jill), Megan Eveland (Dan), Sara Sagedahl (Adam) and Joey Effertz (Sara); and his great grandchildren, Hannah, Nathan, Alyssa Connolly, Charlie Beckel, William, Ryan Eveland, Sophie, Evan and Oliver Sagedahl. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
