He was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret Hassel (Johnson) and Irwin Hassel; and his sister Loyla Waskul (Hassel). He is survived by: his wife Linda of Oshkosh; his daughter Michelle Holbeck (Hassel); his son-in-law Christopher Holbeck; his granddaughters, Audrey of Omaha, Nebraska. and Mara Holbeck of Omaha, Nebraska.; and his siblings-in-law, Rhonda Mueller-Warrant and George Mueller-Warrant of Corvallis. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
