He was predeceased by: his parents, James Burkett and Minnie Burkett (Burke); his son Craig; and his grandson James Earl. He is survived by: his wife LaVonne Elaine Anderson; his children, Mark Burkett, James K. Burkett (Cheryl), Bobbie Kubits (Tarmo), Lori Mullesch (Larry), Terry Burkett (Judy) and Jodi Altringer (Dale); and his brother-in-law Gary Anderson (Jane). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren.
