She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Sauer and Margaret Sauer (Hafner); her husband Roy Schaffer; her brothers, Joseph Sauer (Jean) and Gerald Sauer (Carmen); and her stepgrandson Matthew Johnson.
She is survived by: her children, Michael Schaffer (Liz), Laraine Gorman (Bart), Sandy Christman (Al), Jean Schaffer (John Oelke), Ed Schaffer (Lori) and Jim Schaffer (Joyce); and also Helen Lorenz (Don).
Due to increasing concerns regarding the COVID situation, the family will be holding Mary's burial and celebration of life at a later date.
At this time, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to either St. Peter's Catholic School in Hokah or to Crucifixion Catholic School in La Crescent, Mn.
