He was predeceased by: his parents, Neil Gillis and Anna Pearl Gillis (Cheever); his wife Iris M. Saari; and his siblings, John "Barney" Gillis, Mildred Johnson and Druscilla Nehiba.
He is survived by: his children, David Gillis (Cheryl) of Cherry, MN, Wendy Greenwood (Mark) of Hibbing, MN and Tracey Alaniva (William) of Hiawatha, IA; his grandchildren, Colin Gillis (Bethany), Corie Jivery (Chris), Andrew Alaniva, Jeremy Alaniva (Courtney) and Sarah Brown (Kevin); his great grandchildren, Hailey, Natalie, Ethan, Luke Gillis and Brady Alaniva; his siblings, Neil Gillis (Geri) of Chanhassen, MN, Peggy Mielke (Gene) of Hibbing and Tim Gillis (Debra) of Woodbury, MN; and his siblings-in-law, Ken Saari of Virginia, MN and Carolyn Gillis of Hibbing, MN. He is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends.
