He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Diesen and Emelia Diesen; and his siblings, Carl Diesen, John Diesen and Ruth Dahl.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia; his children, Bruce Diesen (Ann-Sofie) of Norway, Mary Diesen of South Carolina, Barbara Sawdy (Robert) of Burnsville, Carol Hipwell of England, Shirley Newman (Jason) of Maple Grove, Joyce Reto (Robert) of Georgia and Robert Diesen of Duluth; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah, Lydia Diesen, Michael (Amy), Rachel Sawdy, Nathan, Joshua Hipwell and Justin Reto; and his sister Edith Shepherd. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
