He was predeceased by: his parents, Ole Ness and Bertha Ness (Eidem); his brother Joe; and his sister-in-law Betty. He is survived by: his children, James Arnell and Diane Kay; his wife Ileen; his brother Paul; his grandchildren, Brandon, Amber Ness (Williams), Cody, Kelsey Ness (Larson), Taylor Ness (Evan Guggenberger), Marit Pederson (Talia Stanley) and Luke Pederson; and his great grandchildren, Connor and Easton Ness.

He also served on the business club and other committees, such as the Hendricks Foundation and the church board.
