He is survived by: his children, Rachel Melbie (John Drexler), George Schmitz, Renae Stiegen (Jeff), Jacob Schmitz (Stephanie), Rebekah Schmitz and Ruth Schmitz; his siblings, Martin Schmitz, Herman Schmitz (Bernie), Frances Remer, Nick Schmitz and Bob Schmitz (Judy); and his sisters-in-law, Florence Schmitz, Dorothy Schmitz and Irene Schmitz. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren.
