He is survived by: his wife Wilma; his children, David Bates (Sheryl), Tim Bates (Karen) of Baxter, MN, Jon Bates (Phyllis) of Baxter, MN, Dan Bates (Mary Lee) of St. Cloud, MN and Lily Bates (Kevin) of Ovid, MI; and his sister-in-law Ione Gehrls. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
