He was predeceased by: his parents, Joel Botten Sr. and Evelyn Botten (Thordson); his former wife Ruth Botten; his stepmother Vernelle Botten; his sister-in-law Maureen Botten; his parents-in-law, William, Nealy Schmidt, Fritz and Maryls Froehling; his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Venable (Winston), Helen Holznagel (Russel), Florence Cornell (Shorty) and Darlene Zimmerli (Al); his nephew Glen Zimmerli; and his brother-in-law Warren Ahlness.
He is survived by: his former wife Ruth A Schmidt; his sons, Bryan (Tara) of Owatonna and Jordan of Minneapolis; his wife Leslie Botten of Hanska; his daughter Jennifer Lang (Paul) of New Ulm; his siblings, Joel Botten Jr. of St Peter, Darlene Pizel (Ken) of Owatonna and Julie Untiedt (Gary) of New Ulm; his grandchildren, Brandin, Tyler (Cat), Nicole, Cole and Carter; his great grandchildren, Breelyn and Reid; and his parents-in-law, Devon Schmidt (Mary) of Bloomington, Linda Basmoen (David) of Lakeville, Leighann Redmond (DuWayne) and Landis Froehling (Rhonda) of Hanska. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
