He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Eckman and Florence Eckman; and his brothers, Vernon, Gary, Donald and Richard.

He is survived by: his former spouse Jean Collins; his wife Shelley Hayes; his siblings, Delores Schutt and Bruce Eckman (Melissa); and his children, Peter (Vicki), Doug (Caroline), Michael (Shari), James (Rita), Russell (Mary), Debra Lien (Stan), Kim Martinson (Greg), Jennifer Eckman (Todd), Rebecca Strandmark (TJ) and Megan Eckman (Jefferson). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
