He was predeceased by: his parents, Emily Smieja (Kroll) and Frank Smieja; and his brothers, John Smieja and Ted Smieja. He is survived by: his wife Annette (Arnold); his children, Brenda Johnson (Sean), Daniel Smieja (Yvonne), Russell Smieja (Missy) and David Smieja; his grandchildren, Reid Johnson, Hanna Smieja, Zack Smieja (Joleen), Cody Smieja (Jessica) of Randy and Ruby Smieja; and his sisters, Irene Brown, Veronica Smieja and Valerie Manders.
