He was predeceased by: his father Anthony Ellering; his niece Paige Luethmers; and his brothers-in-law, Danny and Ned. He is survived by: his mother Mary Margaret Ellering (Gross) of Melrose; his wife Joan Ellering of Greenwald; his children, Benj Ellering (Jenn) of Spicer, Tammy Beuning (Kyle) of Melrose, Cory Ellering (June) of Melrose and Perry Ellering (Dannielle) of Melrose; his grandchildren, Gabe, Chloe, Turner, Lauryn, Wyatt, Jack, Kaylee, Faye and Courtney; and his siblings, Mark Ellering (Janice) of St. Cloud, Antoinette Evens of Tomball, Daniel Ellering (Norma) of Sauk Centre, David Ellering (Mary) of St. Cloud, Anthony "Tony" Ellering of St. Cloud and Jeff Ellering (Michelle) of Columbia Heights.
