He was predeceased by: his parent Gladys Boyer; his wife Ardy Shourds; his son Richard Shourds; and his brothers, Raymond and Jerry Shourds.
He is survived by: his siblings, Mary Christopher of Chapin, SC and Donald Shourds of Glendale, AZ; and his grandsons, Dustin Shourds (Julie) and Jeremy Shourds (Tabatha) of Montevideo, MN. He is also survived by great-grandchildren.
