He was predeceased by: his parents, Mitchell Steven and Dorothy Marie Smilanich (Eldred); his wives, Carol Anne Macomber of Mary's Episcopal Church and Sue; and his sister Dorothy Ramsdell.
He is survived by: his children, Jim Smilanich (Betsi) of Wimauma, FL, Ellen Smilanich (Rob Downing) of Grand Rapids, MN and Shelley Calvert (Terry Spence) of St. Paul, MN; his sister Mary Skorich (Mike) of Grand Rapids, MN; his stepchildren, Stephen Stillman of Shrewsbury, MA, Lynn Lee of Epsom, NH and Lee Stillman of Merrimack, NH; and his grandchildren, Josh Smilanich, Dani Smilanich (Peter Vang), Katie Polzin (Adam) and Kristi Dietmeier.
