He was predeceased by: his sister Margaret; his father-in-law Richard Grover; and his sister-in-law Jeanette Brohman. He is survived by: his wife Cindy; his children, Sonyia Roy (Christopher) of Ft. Mohave, AZ, Emily Benes (Joseph) of Hill City, MN and John Brohman Jr. of Grand Rapids; his grandson Bentley Benes; his siblings, Cathi Harding, Mike, Joseph, Greg (Marcia), Rick (Liwei), Paul, James Jr. (Eileen Brohman) and Tony Brohman (Alicia); his mother-in-law Lola Grover; and also, Martin (Mary), Ethel (Tom), Sally, Molly (Steve) and Polly. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
