He is survived by: his wife Shirley Gullingsrud of Gary; his children, Ritchie Valen (Karen Kuhl) of O'Fallon, MO, Cory Valen of Gary, Melinda Munson (Jody) of Moorhead, MN and Tanya Senechal (Larry) of Balfour, ND; his siblings, Joanne Van Hale of Minneapolis, MN, Jeanne Hoppestad of Denver, CO and David Valen (Meg) of Jordan, MN; his granddaughters, Andrea Shepherd (Eli), Olivia Niederer (Greg) and Sarah Senechal; and his great grandchildren, Merrin, Lorne Shepherd and Cassidy Niederer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
