He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard Scherping and Marcella Scherping (Pogatchnik); his wife Beverly Pierskalla; his grandson Brandon Scherping; and his brother Arthur Scherping.

He is survived by: his children, Russell Scherping (Lisa Davis) of Hugo, Michelle Potter (John) of Pillager, Shawn Scherping (Paula) of Winsted, Kurt Scherping (Pam) of Freeport and Robin Schwieters (Leo) of Rogers; his siblings, Virgil Scherping (Elaine) of Winsted, Daniel Scherping (Evelyn) of Cedar, Tom Scherping (Anita) of Helena, Montana and Linda Breth (Jim) of Holdingford; and his sister-in-law Aggie Scherping of Winsted. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
