He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Halstensgard and Mabel Halstensgard (Lindberg); his grandson James Halstensgard; and his sisters, Joan Simmons and Marlene Fuglseth.
He is survived by: his wife Estelle Flatten; his children, David Halstensgard (Barb) of New Brighten, MN, Bruce Halstensgard (Mary Jo) of TegaCay, SC, Luther Halstensgard (Marilyn) of Fertile, MN, Jonathan Halstensgard of Cambridge, MN, Phat Phan (Thao) of San Jose, CA, Chau Lam (Phuong) of San Jose, CA and Ngoc Lam (Thuy) of San Jose, CA; his grandchildren, Amanda, Melissa, Christine, Daniel, Bruce Jr., Mark, Stephen, Jana, Elizabeth, Colton, Kalton, Dustin, Carley, Corbin, Christopher, Kylie, Kristen and Tiffany; and his brother Richard Halstensgard (Sue) of Greenbush, MN. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
