He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Werner and Carol Werner (Cottingham); his parents-in-law, Leonard and Alice Bengtson; and his sister-in-law Carol Broadwell.

He is survived by: his wife Judith Werner of Fergus Falls; his children, Kristifor Werner (Robin) of Fergus Falls, Kurk Werner (Wendy) of Fergus Falls and Dan Werner (Shayne Hamann) of Woodbury; his grandchildren, Alise Moyer (Alex) of Fergus Falls, Emily Werner of Fergus Falls, Evan, Lauren, Quinn, Ava Werner of Fergus Falls, Drake, Dylan and Savannah Werner of Woodbury; his sister Jane Amiotte of Saskatoon, SK; and his brothers-in-law, Phil Bengtson (Janelle) of Hallock and Jim Bengtson of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Foundation, Fergus Falls Lake Region Cancer Care and Research Center, or donor's choice.
