He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Hanstad and Florence Hanstad (Olson); his daughter-in-law Veva Hanstad; his siblings-in-law, Joyrene Hanstad, Sergy Owczynsky, Les Royer and Gary VandeLinde; his stepfather Leonard Anderson; and his parents-in-law, Palmer and Edna Melaas.
He is survived by: his wife Ona Melaas; his sons, Dann of Albuquerque, NM, Dale (Tanya) of Swan Lake and David (Marcy) of Fergus Falls; his grandchildren, Jacob Hanstad of North Dakota, Sabrina Parpin (Jay), Shawn Filmer of New Mexico and Elizabeth Davidson (Brock) of Saint Michael, MN; his great grandchildren, Ethan, Ryan, Anthony and Jaedyn of New Mexico; and his siblings, Lola Royer of Saint Paul, MN and Rolland Hanstad of Fergus Falls. He is also survived by two nieces, and six nephews.
