He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hovland and Alma Hovland (Meslow); his wife Carol Hovland; his siblings, Hub (Marilyn), Ken (Martha), Joe (Ollie), Linc, Alice Olson (Earl), June Weseman (Sy), Margie Jensen (Johnny) and Lorraine Kastella (Kermit); his parents-in-law, Joe and Hazel Houghtaling; his sister-in-law Pat Nitz (Derrell); and his son-in-law Glenn Moses.
He is survived by: his children, Jackie Berndt and Brenda Moses; his grandchildren, Abby Berndt (Wes Doney), Adam Berndt (Rebecca Sandmeier), Jenna Lund (Alex) and Joseph Moses (Brittney); his great grandchildren, Micah Glenn, Eli Gordon and Thomas Glenn; his siblings, Johnny Hovland and Ann Butkus; and his brother-in-law Kent Houghtaling (Margie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
