He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Leslie Olson and Maxine Olson (Fett); his wife Helen Olson of Fairmont, MN; his sons, Andy Olson (Kristy) of Fairmont, MN and Christopher Olson (Anna) of Lakeville, MN; his granddaughters, Raegan, Violet and Macie; his father-in-law Ralph Buthe of Howard, SD; his sisters, Barbara Peters (Ron) and Bonnie Johnson (Don); his siblings-in-law, Tim Buthe (Gerry), Greg Buthe (Tracy), Tony Buthe (Barb), Mary Jo Nelson (Steve) and Lisa Olson (Rick); his nieces, Daniella Stich and Megan Olson; his mother-in-law Maxine Buthe; and his grandchild Kadin Olson. He was also cherished by numerous other nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Children's Hospital of Minnesota.
