He was predeceased by: his parents, David and Myrtle (Cable); his parents-in-law, LeRoy and Thelma Schoewe; his brothers, Harold (Maxine), Melvin (Joann) and David Jr; his sister-in-law Jean Schultz (Roger); his niece Judith; and his nephew Billy.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his daughters, Brenda Smith (Todd) of Blue Earth and Pam Jacobson of North Mankato; his grandchildren, Jared Smith (Tana) of Eagle Lake and Jenny Passer (Forrest) of Rochester; his brother-in-law Bruce Schoewe (Jeanette) of Harrisburg, SD; and his uncle Larry Allgood of Odin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
