He was predeceased by: his parents, Wayne Sumey and Violet Sumey (Dahl); his siblings, Susan Sumey and Jonathan Sumey; his brother-in-law Bruce Iverson; and his father-in-law Herman Eigenberg.

He is survived by: his wife Deborah Sumey (Eigenberg); his brother James Sumey of Staples, MN; his children, Christopher, Katie Sumey (Marshall) of Sioux Falls, Jessica Kesterson (Sumey) of Edina, Benjamin, Kimberly Sumey (Roth) of Saginaw, MI, Michael Sumey (Megan Schierenbeck), Daniel and Haley Sumey (Scherr) of Edina; his grandchildren, Elijah, Kirsa, Ingrid Sumey, Graham, Violet, Penelope Kesterson, Henry, Levi, Lyla Sumey and Arthur Sumey; his mother-in-law Lylas Eigenberg; and his siblings-in-law, Russ Eigenberg (Jeanne), Bryan Eigenberg (Lois), Dave Ling (Lori) and Doreen Iverson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family.
