He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Kost and Vera Kost (Hansen); his brothers, Raymond Kost and Roger Kost; his parents-in-law, Roy and Dorothy Engel; and his brother-in-law James Engel.

He is survived by: his former wife Charlotte Engel; his wife Charlotte Kost; his children, Katherine Hogeson (Steven), Paul Kost, Jay Kost (Deanna) and Kari Koenecke (Mark); his grandchildren, Jennifer Wedel, Sarah Odegaard, Danielle Fox, Chelsea Kost, Kayla Kost, Adam Kost, Ryan Kost, Benjamin Kost, Joseph Koenecke and Joshua Koenecke; his great grandchildren, Trevor Miedtke, Olivia Wedel, Owen Wedel, Audrey Wedel, Henry Wedel, Ethan Odegaard, Danica Odegaard, Addison Fox, Emmy Fox and Kenna Fox; his brother Robert Kost (Laurie); and his sisters-in-law, Carol Gunderson (Jerry) and Ruth Engel. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
