He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Rendit DeBoer and Sarah DeBoer (DeYoung); his former wife Evelyn Wedel of Fairmont, MN; his son Rick DeBoer (Deb) of Fairmont, MN; his grandchildren, Justin DeBoer (Angela) of Fairmont, MN, Travis DeBoer (Angie) of Fairmont, MN and Emily Hansen (Bryan) of Sherburn, MN; his great grandchildren, Paige DeBoer, Ty DeBoer, Trace DeBoer, Clay DeBoer, Lane DeBoer, Gracin Hansen, Elayna Hansen and Griffin Hansen; his stepdaughter Cindy Eaton (Brian); his stepgrandchildren, Joseph Eaton, Natalie Eaton, Mariah Eaton, Isaiah Eaton and Grace Eaton; his sister Fern Sams; his sisters-in-law, Harriet Haglund and Kari Wedel; his wife Arlene DeBoer; his siblings, Harold DeBoer, Lawrence DeBoer, Warren DeBoer, Velma Wiederhoeft, Goldie Dirksen and Dorothy Peterson; and his brothers-in-law, Gordy Haglund, David Cook, Lloyd Wedel and Charles Buchan (Phyllis).

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to an organization of the donor's choice in memory of Merle.
