He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Hammel and Elsie Hammel (Schmidt); and his brother Leland Hammel. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Hammel; his children, Deborah Tooley, Tony Hammel (Nancy), Tom Hammel, Ron Hammel, Julie George (Nigel) and Scott Hammel (Mimi); his grandchildren, Ben Hammel (Carolyn), Kara Tooley, Amber Hammel, Octavia George, Isaac George, Logan Nguyen Hammel and Quinn Nguyen Hammel; and his great grandchildren, Elias Hammel, Marlow Hammel and Sage Garcia-Hammel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota.
